How Tall Should Table Lamps Be
This rule holds true for all table lamps floor lamps or buffet lamps in a room.
How tall should table lamps be. The key is the level of the shade. For this rule Ill give you an example to apply the math. Keeping this in view how tall should a buffet table be.
Additional light may be required for additional lighting. This needs to sit at shoulder height when you are in bed so that the light spills out at eye-level when reading. For a floor lamp The top of the lampshade should ideally be no more than 48 inches from the top of the mattress.
Here the lamp shade is roughly 13 of the lamp height and 2x the width. If you have a short lamp you can use a base like a small table. The dip dyed lamps above are 29 with the shade.
This results in a fixture about 24 inches tall. Typically the height should be be between 58 64 from the floor to the top of the finial. For any lamp that is going to be used from the bed itself its important that it be easily accessible from the bed itself.
There is no standard height rule because beds and mattresses vary widely. Floor lamps measured from bottom of base to top of finial if they have one are usually 58 to 64 inches high. A height of 29 inches is usually appropriate for a bedside table lamp.
The placement of the lamp switch is also an issue. You wouldnt want to have a lamp over your head when reading or the one thats directly on your face. The bottom of the shade should be right at eye level as well.
